Description

Dark, garnet-red colour. The first nose is striking for its aromas of red and black fruits. On swirling the wine, scents of raspberry and blackcurrant stand out, underlined by lovely woodiness. The first taste is impressive and fleshy, appealing. The wine develops on a more distinct texture of tannin, juicy and rich in fruity flavours. The averagely long finish is very pleasant in its taste of freshly picked fruit and spice. . In the early sixteenth century, the Arregedhuys parcel, which later became the vineyard of Château La Mission Haut-Brion, was owned by Louis de Roustaing, sieur de La Tour d'Esquivens. In 1540, he sold the Arregedhuys parcel to Arnaud de Lestonnac, an important merchant in Bordeaux. Upon their arrival in 1682 at a place then named Haut-Brion, parish of Talence, the Lazarite friars immediately began making improvements to the La Mission vineyard, converting the remaining plots covered with brushwood into parcels under vines. In 1919, Frédéric Otto Woltner purchased Château La Mission Haut-Brion, by that time, an estate of great renown. When the Château was put on the market in 1983, Domaine Clarence Dillon was one of the first parties to submit a bid. When the Duchesse de Mouchy became president of Domaine Clarence Dillon, her desire to include her children in its major management decisions prompted her to have her son Robert excused from the school in Sussex.
