Description

Since his arrival in 1992, Denis Lurton has chosen to make a wine that is both modern. that can be enjoyed in its youth, and yet retains the elegance and capacity for ageing that are characteristic of Margaux's wines. He has prolonged the destiny of this property, named after an old French family that had links to wine production in the Medoc as far back as 1741. This was the date that Jean-Baptiste Desmirail, a lawyer in Bordeaux's parliament, gave his name to the property when he received it from his wife, Marguerite Rauzan du Ribail, as part of her dowry. The chateau belonged to the Desmirail family until just before the 1855 classification, when it was purchased by Monsieur Sipiere, the steward of Chateau Margaux. It was under his ownership that Desmirail obtained the rank of Troisieme Grand Cru Classe (third growth). The marriage of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, in almost equal proportions, accompanied by 5 to 10% Petit Verdot and soon Cabernet Franc enables, with the contribution of global warming, the production of a modern wine that can adapt to consumer choices.
