Description

The wine has a deep colour with a garnet hue. The rich, packed nose opens on aromas of blackberry and marzipan. With airing, the initial fruit is complemented by an array of spice and dark chocolate notes. The powerful and well-structured attack reveals peppery and slightly minty flavours, leading into a mid-palate underpinned by elegant and dense tannins on roasted coffee-bean and liquorice notes. A long and smooth finish rounds off a remarkably harmonious wine.. During the XVIIth century, the Armailhac brothers were owners of plots in Pauillac. During the eighteenth century, their descendants decided to establish a vineyard on them. Some Darmailhacq, with different spellings, had succeeded at the head of the field. In 1855, the castle was awarded the title of ‘fifth cru classé’, under the name of the château Mouton d’Armailhacq. In 1933, baron Philippe de Rothschild acquired this estate - also well-know for its grounds (among the most beautiful in the Médoc). Know as Mouton d'Armailhacq between 1956 and 1989, the château was then successively named Mouton Baronne Philippe and Mouton Baron Philippe. However, since 1989, baronne Philippine de Rothschild has revived the historic link with the original owner by renaming the estate Château d'Armailhac
