Description
This parcel as a whole is called Roséy but in the 18th century a small parcel called "Sept Ranches" appeared in the southwest corner near Plantenay. Ranche is a form for the word "ronce " from the Latin RUMEX which means "small sorrel, a species of stinger plant". Other variants such as "ronche", "ronde" and "ronze" appear in the place-name history of Burgundy.
