Description

Château Phelan Ségur boasts origins dating back to the 19th century, when it was owned by Bernard Phélan, a wine merchant of Irish origin who settled in Bordeaux at that time. Husband of the daughter of an important Bordeaux merchant, in 1805 he acquired two properties in Saint-Estèphe, the Clos de Garramey, then in 1810 the Ségur de Cabanac estate. Bernard Phélan founded Château Ségur de Garramey and had a building built, the particularity of which was to bring together the vat room and the cellar at the heart of the dwelling. When he died in 1841, his son Frank Phélan took over the management of the property. At the beginning of the 20th century, Château Ségur de Garramey was renamed Château Phélan Ségur.

Owned by Xavier Gardinier since 1985, Château Phélan Ségur was acquired in January 2018 by Philippe Van de Vyvere. Accompanied by his son Pierre, this Belgian entrepreneur passionate about Bordeaux wines brings to the utmost the fame of this reference of the Union des Grands Crus de Bordeaux and that the Place de Bordeaux registers as part of the "Grands Crus Classés et Assimilés" .

Proudly overlooking the Gironde estuary, the vineyard of 70 hectares of vines is divided into four plots located on a mosaic of terroirs. The plantings are made up of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The wines of Château Phélan Ségur are recognised for their elegance, finesse and balance.
