Description

Legend has it that the knights and Freres Hospitaliers of Saint John of Jerusalem were the first to cultivate the vine in Pomerol. It appears that during the gallo-roman period, the region was essentially planted with orchards. The name of Pomerol comes from the latin Pomarius, apple orchard. Viticulture was developed in Pomerol from 19th century onwards and above all during the 20th century. Chateau Petit_x0002_Village is a jewel set in the highest part of the magnificent terroir of the Pomerol plateau, on deep gravel and clay soils with a ferrous base in the heart of the appellation. The past few years have seen major renovations and changes at Chateau Petit-Village. Significant replanting of the vineyard had occurred, with the long term aim of maximizing quality. Short term this means that quantities of Chateau Petit-Village are lower than before, production of the Grand Vin coming only from the best old vine production.
