Hungary

Hungary’s Tokaj region is known for its sweet Tokaji Aszú wines made from Furmint and Hárslevelű grapes. The region’s volcanic soils and unique climate contribute to the complexity of its wines. Tokaji Aszú is often referred to as the “Wine of Kings” for its rich flavors of apricot, honey, and spice, balanced by vibrant acidity. Hungary also produces excellent dry whites and reds from regions like Eger and Villány. Eger is famous for its Egri Bikavér (Bull’s Blood), a robust red blend, while Villány is known for its powerful Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The wines from Hungary are characterized by their balance, richness, and distinctive regional character.
